The building has been in a state of remodel since early August, 2005.

Among the first changes we made in early August '05 were the removal of the old "Chapel Theater" sign and some large sumac that had been growing on the grounds. This opened up the view of the building from the street. In this picture, the posts from the previous sign remain, showing just how much of the building had been blocked when the sign was up.

In late August '05, we began scraping paint from the windows. There are several layers of paint to scrape, and eight tall windows to do it on, so this turned out to be a monumental project, and is still in the works. When completed, the interiors of the windows will be white, with the sills and frames stained naturally.

A new laminate floor was installed over Labor Day weekend '05. This was a significant step towards improvement of the interior.

This is a picture of the 3rd St. wall and balcony from around the same time, Labor Day '05. This used to be the stage area when the building was a theater and has since been in great neglect. In this picture, the new laminate floor was not yet in place.

In summer of '06, a production of Hamlet was planned, and remodeling activities resumed after a period of dormancy. Many volunteers pitched in and worked long hours to make improvements to the building. In July, the balcony was brought up to legal height.

Around the same time, insulation plugs and other defects in the walls were smoothed and then textured, followed by paint.

The paint really gives a hint as to how the final appearance of the interior will look!

A volunteer landscaping crew also came out to till the front lot and pull the old signposts. What a difference! The ultimate goal with the front lot will be a paved courtyard, but this is a great improvement over how it looked before.
Next up, completing the texture and paint, restoring the wainscoting, and finishing the windows!
